1. To raise awareness of the proposals for a new open cast mine at Nant Llesg near Rhymney and the negative impact that these proposals will have on health, jobs, quality of life, the environment and nearby communities.
2. To encourage local residents, businesses, politicians and representative bodies to oppose the proposals for a second open cast mine in the area.
3. To use research and examples from other areas to demonstrate the real impact of open cast mining on individuals and communities and challenge any false claims made by mine developers.
4. To persuade key figures within the Welsh Government, as well as Caerphilly County Borough Council, that any application for new open cat mines in the area should be refused.
